Hi,
die Druckausgabe der Sanparks Times, die in vielen Parks auslag, wird eingestellt. Im März kommt die letzte Ausgabe in die Parks, dann gibt es nur noch Internetinfos. Schade, wir haben die Times immer gerne gelesen.

20 July 2018
South African National Parks (SANParks) yesterday, 19 July 2018 announced the fatal shooting of a field Ranger in the Kruger National Park in a poaching incident.
According to reports, the field Ranger and his colleagues made contact with a poaching group that they had been tracking, supported by the K9 unit. It appears as they approached the group, shots were exchanged, seriously injuring him in the upper body. A doctor was flown in to stabilize him but unfortunately he succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital.
Reacting to the news, the CEO of SANParks, Fundisile Mketeni expressed his heartfelt symphaties to the Ranger’s family, colleagues and associates saying “We would like to express our sincerest condolences to his immediate family, colleagues and associates. Our prayers are with them during this difficult period, it is never easy to cope with losing a loved one, especially in this manner. We have lost a patriot who died on duty protecting South African assets and who was well trained to defend himself, hence our shock on learning of this incident. We will draw strength from his contribution to the anti-poaching campaign and as his colleagues, we are going to continue where he left off in honour of his memory. Our immediate concern now is to support the family with their needs and counselling, we are extremely saddened by this incident” concluded Mketeni.
The name of the deceased cannot be released as his next of kin have yet to be informed and his colleagues are receiving trauma counselling.
The SAPS is busy with further investigations.

It was with deep sadness that the Chief Executive Officer, Fundisile Mketeni learned of the passing away of Field Ranger, Respect Mathebula on Thursday, 19 July 2018. Respect was based at Crocodile Bridge Section and passed away in an incident which involved a shoot-out between rangers and suspected poachers.
Respect joined SANParks in February 2015 as Field Ranger at Shangoni Ranger Section. In July 2016, he moved to Crocodile Bridge Section in the same position and worked there until he passed away.
“Very few people have the courage and necessary skills to perform this important task other than Rangers, in which Respect was and will forever be part of. Etlela hi kurhula Respect – May your soul rest in peace. You upheld the Ranger values and flew the SANParks flag high with honour. We are poorer with your absence but will continue where you left off”.
Respect leaves behind his wife, Wisdom Ndlovu, their four children, five brothers, two sisters and all other family members.
The funeral service will be on Saturday, 28 July 2018 at Clare A, a village near Hluvukani in Bushbuckridge at 06:00.

SA National Parks Announces Free Access Week Dates For 2018
South African National Parks (SANParks) will be hosting the 13th annual SA National Parks Week from 10 to 14 September 2018. National parks focus week is a world-wide campaign which gives people free access to National Parks.
SANParks Chief Executive Officer, Fundisile Mketeni says, “The week in partnership with Total South Africa and FNB is meant to cultivate a sense of pride in South Africa’s natural, cultural and historical heritage, protected by the national parks system.”
The week gives day visitors free access to most of the 21 national parks, with special emphasis on ensuring that people from local communities close to parks get to know and experience a national park. The free access does not include accommodation facilities and other tourist activities. Some of the parks will be extending the week to include weekends. Individual park dates will be announced soon.
SA National Parks Week has proved to be a successful campaign in terms of education and awareness of conservation issues and the various park offerings. “The survival of the South African national parks system and our natural and cultural heritage lies in the people of South Africa. Environmental education and protection is the responsibility of everyone,” concludes Mketeni. Don’t miss out on this annual event to experience South Africa’s beautiful natural heritage.

South African National Parks is introducing new gate access technology at Table Mountain and West Coast National Parks on November 1st 2018; the new gate technology is expected to streamline ticket purchase and quick access for visitors to these parks.
The roll-out of the new gate system coincides with the introduction of differential conservation fees at Table Mountain National Park which offers South African residents and Southern African Development Community (SADC) national reduced rates.
According to SANParks Managing Executive: Tourism Development and Marketing, Hapiloe Sello, visitors to these parks will now be able to buy digital tickets on-line prior to their arrival at the gate; these digital tickets will then be scanned at the gate for quick access. She said this system also caters for tour operators who in the past had to purchase group tickets from SANParks offices. They too will have access to an online portal through which they can purchase digital tickets according to their respective group sizes. Sello said with the introduction of the differential conservation fees, prospective visitors would be required to indicate their citizenship or residence status when buying tickets online and upon entry, South African residents will be required to produce their identity document or card, driver’s license or residence permit.”
According to Sello, SANParks implemented differential conservation fees in 2004 in all its parks with the exception of Table Mountain National Park. “The only reason why differential Conservation Fees were not implemented was due to the complexity of processing visitors at the two high volume access points, namely Cape Point and Boulders.” As of November 1, 2018 the standard conservation fees for Cape Point for adults will be R303 (€19 or $21) for international guests, R152 for SADC nationals and R76 for both SA nationals and foreign nationals with official SA residence status, while for Boulders this will amount to R152 (€9-30 or $10-50), R76 and R39 respectively. The Cape Town Cable Car will not be affected by these changes.
“This initiative further aims to increase accessibility to South Africans, more especially the sectors of society that do not traditionally visit national parks,” concluded Sello.
