Schools in Cape Town / Helderberg for German kid?

melkbaai2
Hi zusammen,

Excuse my English, but my German is not so great yet, I can ask questions better in English! (but anyone who answer, can answer in Deutsch, I can read and understand Deutsch).

My partner (melkbaai) and me, want to return to South Africa next year. Currently we live and work in Berlin. She is German and I am South African. Our son (4 years old) is also German. We want to settle in the Cape Town / Helderberg (Strand, Somerset Werst, Stellenbosch) area, but are wondering about the following:

1) Are there any good schools in that area (besides the Deutsche Schule of course) that would be suitable for our son? Because he can of course speak German but no English (also no Afrikaans). We think he can understand some bits of English. Our plan was to put him in the schools Kindergarten the last 6 months of 2009, and then he starts with Gr. 1. at the school in 2010.

2) Are there any associations / groups for Germans in that area that we (at least my partner, melkbaai) can join?

3) Any ideas what my partner can try for job in that area? She has background in "archiv". But we were also thinking about "touristführer" on wine farms, etc. Any special agency or place where she can ask about jobs?

4) Anyone here (who also in SA) have any plans for some business for the tourists in 2010 WM? We were making a venture, or at least become involved in someone's venture for the 2010 WM.

Vielen Dank für Ihre Hilfe! smile

Last question, completely different: I met the German couple & children who opened ice cream shop in Strand. Anyone know what happened to them since then? VOX was going to do follow-up program about them, but I think we missed it.
