Gamka Mountain is part of an isolated mountain range in the Little Karoo, close to Oudtshoorn and the famous Cango Caves. Originally pronounced to conserve a population of endangered Cape mountain zebra and their habitat, the reserve is rugged with mountainous plateau incised by deep ravines. This reserve is best explored on foot and is perfect for the visitor who enjoys the peace and tranquillity of a pristine environment.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced, with profound sadness, that Minister of Environmental Affairs Ms Edna Molewa passed away today, Saturday 22 September 2018, after a period of illness.
Minister Molewa passed away at a Pretoria hospital.
“I offer my deepest condolences to the family of Minister Edna Molewa as well as to her colleagues in Cabinet and across all spheres of government who have had the privilege to work alongside an extraordinary leader of our people.
“This is a devastating loss to our nation and to the global community who owe a great debt of gratitude to the late Minister Molewa for her championship nationally and globally for the environmental integrity of a sustainable planet Earth that can be shared and enjoyed by all nations and all people, rich and poor.
“Minister Molewa has distinguished herself in many capacities and causes from her contribution to our liberation to fighting for equality of women in our society. We shall miss her greatly.”
President Ramaphosa has declared a period of mourning with immediate effect and ordered that the National Flag be flown at halfmast at all flag stations countrywide and at South African diplomatic missions abroad.
Details of commemorative events and funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.
President Ramaphosa, who is due to travel to New York later today for his inaugural participation as Head of State and Government in the United Nations National Assembly, is due to visit the Molewa family in the course of the day.

South African National Parks (SANParks) today, 5 October 2018 confirmed a fatal vehicle accident involving two day visitors who were travelling between Olifants and Letaba camps in the Kruger National Park (KNP) yesterday late afternoon. Initial reports suggest there was no other vehicle involved and the SAPS are investigating the incident and circumstances around it.
Rangers and emergency personnel rushed to offer assistance but unfortunately nothing could be done to save the lives of the visitors. According to eyewitnesses, the car veered off the road and overturned; the two occupants were ejected from the car and were certified dead at the scene.
Reacting to the news, the Managing Executive of the KNP, Glenn Phillips, passed his sincerest condolences to the families of the deceased “It is always a tragic event to lose someone and we wish their families strength during this difficult period. When reports of the accident were received, we immediately dispatched emergency medical personnel to assist those affected. I would like to thank my colleagues who responded to the accident.
Further to this, we would like to appeal to people to desist from speculating on the circumstances and to allow the SAPS to conduct investigations, results of which will be submitted to the families at the appropriate time. “We would like to again urge visitors to the park to obey the rules of the road, stick to the speed limit and remain vigilant at all times. We are approaching the festive season in two months’ time and encourage visitors to plan their trips between gates and camps so as to eliminate the need to speed” concluded Phillips.
The name of the deceased cannot be released as their next of kin have not been informed.

South African National Parks confirms that Rangers conducting a patrol with K9 support in the south western boundary of Kruger National Park today, flushed out two suspicious individuals who were hiding in a pipeline underneath the railway line.
Upon inspection, the Rangers also noticed a suspicious device linked to a battery. The bomb squad was summoned to the scene and identified the device as a pipe bomb. The bomb squad detonated the device at the scene.
The CEO of South African National Parks Mr Fundislie Mketeni stated, “I would like to commend the Rangers and K9 unit for their vigilance and swift action that enabled us to manage the matter quickly and without incident, and it is a reminder to all criminals that no activity will go unnoticed and unchecked in any of our parks.”
He went on to state that, “It is unfortunate that South Africans who are involved in such affairs do not seem to realise they are hurting their own people and their own country, and are in the process destroying their own heritage.
‘’We urge them to come forward and inform us of who is encouraging this behaviour and to work with us to put an end to this it,” concluded Mketeni.

The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) will today officially open the hiking trails at the Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve. The three hiking trails vary in terms of time and activity. The trails include the Belvedere day walk which is estimated to take five hours as well as the Waterval long trail which will take approximately 3 days to complete.
“These trails traverse half of the Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve as well as privately owned land, from Paradise Camp (on the God’s Window loop road) to Bourkes Luck Potholes. They are self-guided trails and will afford the hiker an opportunity to appreciate the natural wonders on offer at this nature reserve”, said Executive Manager for Tourism at MTPA, Mr Xolani Mthethwa.
Blyde River Canyon is the 3rd largest canyon and ever green in the world and offers spectacular landscapes and high altitude scenic drives leading to attractions like God’s Window, the Bourke’s Luck Potholes and the Three Rondavels.
“Tour operators and guides are encouraged to explore these trails in order to be able to put together packages and detailed itineraries for those seeking adventure based tourism experiences”, added Mthethwa.
The three days trail starts from Paradise Camp to Watervalspruit, which is approximately 3km. From Watervalspruit to Clearstream it will take approximately 13.5km and lastly from Clearstream to Bourkes Luck Potholes it will take approximately 13.6km. This trail is not for the faint hearted and is ideal for those tourists intending to spend a longer period.
Today’s launch is aimed at creating awareness on the newly refurbished rustic accommodation available while using the trails and further introduce the diverse product offering to the market.
We invite you to upload your experiences on #discovermpumalanga #mympumalanga

Hi,
die Druckausgabe der Sanparks Times, die in vielen Parks auslag, wird eingestellt. Im März kommt die letzte Ausgabe in die Parks, dann gibt es nur noch Internetinfos. Schade, wir haben die Times immer gerne gelesen.
